We are casting a pretty large net with our own rubric of 'Weird Fantasy' here.  Certainly the inclusion of illustrations of horror stories is the standard, but we've admittedly stretched the class by also seeking out works from fairy tales, mystical legends, lost civilizations, antediluvian valleys, pre-historical epochs, 'alternate' histories, fantastically rampaging wildlife, jungle men/women and other fictional near-superhero individuals.

  Luis Dominguez (only my own attribution), HARDY BOYS MYSTERY JIGSAW PUZZLE - Identified by someone as George Wilson's, it just doesn't resemble any style he has been clearly identified putting forward.  Because of his distinctive style, I'd say that it makes me think of Luis Dominguez and I'm going to group it with his for now.  There was a companion jigsaw puzzle offering whose art doesn't say either one, but perhaps it wasn't executed by the same artist.  Note that in the published version, a different menace seems to be lurking behing the opening stone wall.

  Frank Frazetta, THE MOON MAID (original published version) - This image was used as the cover of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book of that title, it was subsequently revised by the artist, repositioning the pose of the maid and altering the countenance of the her centarian steed, creating a new image that has been reproduced widely since.  The original cover has been featured in FRAZETTA BOOK COVER ART.

  Frank Frazetta, BUSTER CRABBE - A drawing that was apparently done for the pleasure of the 'Fleagle Gang'.  It was in Al Williamson's possession year's later and utilized as the back cover of Wally Wood's 'pro-zine' Witzend #1.  I haven't yet seen it given its own artbook page.

  Frank Frazetta, THE MAD KING (revised version) - The original published version had been used as the cover of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book of that title.  The revision seems to be the changing of the color scheme to a cooler, bluer palatte.  A smaller reproduction has appeared here and there, but I've yet to see it get its own artbook page without typography.  The original cover has been featured in FRAZETTA BOOK COVER ART.

  SHINING KNIGHT # 2 - One of Frazetta's panels, from his DC Comics SHINING KNIGHT stories, processed and used as the cover of DC compilation comic book THE MASTERWORKS SERIES OF GREAT COMIC BOOK ARTISTS# 2.

  Frank Frazetta, OUT OF THE GRAVE - Done in collaboration with Sid Check, this was the cover to comic book BEWARE # 10, illustrating one of the horror stories within.

  Frank Frazetta, THE BEAR WHIRLED ABOUT ON THE NARROW LEDGE - An illustration for Edgar Rice Burroughs novel Tarzan At The Earth's Core.  In EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS 100 YEAR ART CHRONOLOGY Vol2:THE BOOKS, its compiler, Michael Tierney, presented a large featured reproduction of this drawing and he added color to the non-terrain features.  While not purely 'Frazetta' any more, it seems an effective exhibit and some might like to see it as well in some Frazetta artbook should such an opportunity arise.

  Frank Frazetta, UNTITLED - As originally created, the drawing carries this delicate coloring, but was featured in only black-&-white in FRANK FRAZETTA BOOK FIVE.

  Frank Frazetta, TARZAN AND THE CASTAWAYS - When this story collection was first published by Canaveral Press, they chose one of Frazetta's interior illustrations to adorn the cover.  A later edition colorized it.  This cover was featured in EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS 100 YEAR ART CHRONOLOGY Vol2:THE BOOKS.  While not purely 'Frazetta' any more, it seems an effective exhibit and some might like to see it as well in some Frazetta artbook should such an opportunity arise.

Shaver himself, in continuing support of his controversial narrative about the Earthly remains of a technologically-advanced pre-historical civilization.  A few years later, McCauley would re-cycle his central figure here (hiding her centaurish-ness) in his cover painting for IMAGINATION, Meet Me In Tomorrow.

  George Wilson, CREATURE OF THE SWAMP, (BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY # 28) - "It's alive . . . growing . . .deadly !" - This Gold Key anthology horror comic series began during the two-season run of THRILLER, an anthology horror/suspense television series hosted by the renowned actor Boris Karloff, who was a natural, as he was known best for his appeareances in so many horror movies.  The comic-book far outlived both the actor and the series, continuing through its 18th year.

Those that were collected under the Boris Karloff Tales Of Mysery banner usually exclaimed "Spine-tinglers is the Karloff tradition !"
