We are casting a pretty large net with our own rubric of 'Weird Fantasy' here.  Certainly the inclusion of illustrations of horror stories is the standard, but we've admittedly stretched the class by also seeking out works from fairy tales, mystical legends, lost civilizations, antediluvian valleys, pre-historical epochs, 'alternate' histories, fantastically rampaging wildlife, jungle men/women and other fictional near-superhero individuals.

  Luis Dominguez, [unknown title] - Thought to have been perhaps painted (but unused) for a Gold Key horror comic, but seems to have never been used for anything else.

  Luis Dominguez (only my own attribution), HARDY BOYS MYSTERY JIGSAW PUZZLE - Identified by someone as George Wilson's, it just doesn't resemble any style he has been clearly identified putting forward.  Because of his distinctive style, I'd say that it makes me think of Luis Dominguez and I'm going to group it with his for now.  There was a companion jigsaw puzzle offering whose art doesn't say either one, but perhaps it wasn't executed by the same artist.  Note that in the published version, a different menace seems to be lurking behing the opening stone wall.

  Luis Dominguez, [title unknown] - This Dominguez painting has appeared on the market, but currently it's not clear what it was intended for or if it was used.

  Luis Dominguez, THE SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP, (RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! # 89) - "Houdini vs. the creator of Sherlock Holmes !"

  Luis Dominguez, FAMILY SECRET, (BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY # 58) - "A centuries-old curse revives to cast its lethal spell on the living !"

  Luis Dominguez, THE NEST, (BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY # 94) - "The disbelieving landlord purchased this house, best left undisturbed !"

  Luis Dominguez (only my own attribution), A BOOTFUL OF GOLD, (RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! # 74) - "Pay up - the devil is waiting !" - One trusted source wanted to tentatively attribute this to Mike Roy, but when the original painting came on the market recently, the auction-house acknowledged that, but they thought it seemed closer to Luis Dominguez's work.  I agree with them.

  Luis Dominguez, DUM-DUM'S BASEMENT, (BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY # 93) - "It's true, the monster lives . . . and fights for its life !"

  Luis Dominguez, THE GIRL IN THE TOWER, (RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! # 79) - "A tormented spirit plunges eternally to her death !"

  Luis Dominguez (only my own attribution), NO JOKING MATTER, (THE TWILIGHT ZONE # 81) - "He'd do anything for a laugh - even die !" - To me, the many clothing creases suggest Luis Dominguez as the artist, but Heritage Auctions identified it as George Wilson's.  There's no notation on the front of the canvas to confirm that and indeed the background is not handled as Wilson usually does.

  Luis Dominguez, AFRAID OF HIS OWN SHADOW, (BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY # 89) - "He was afraid of his own shadow - and his shadow knew it !"

  Luis Dominguez, THE LADY OF AVENEL, (RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! # 54) - "'Turn back' warned the specter of the woman he loved !" - One trusted source identified this as created by George Wilson, but yet another says Luis Dominguez.  The dress of the ghostly femme indeed calls out Dominguez to me.

  Luis Dominguez, WHEN THE TRUMPET SOUNDS, (RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! # 94) - "The final note of the ghostly trumpet is the sound of death !"

  Luis Dominguez, THE ROCKING CHAIR, (GRIMM'S GHOST STORIES # 23) - "His brother was dead - but that wasn't enough ! His ghost had to die too !"

  Luis Dominguez, MONSTER CLOCK, (BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY # 96) - "The clock struck a note of doom for each of its terrified owners !"

  Luis Dominguez (only my own attribution), ARM OF THE LAW, (GRIMM'S GHOST STORIES # 28) - "His own arm was an accusing phantom !" - Heritage Auctions wanted to attribute this to George Wilson and another trusted source tentatively did the same thing, but also stating it was 'over' a Luis Dominguez drawing.  Luis Dominguez certainly did his own paintings and it just looks like a Luis Dominguez painting to me.

  Harold McCauley, UNTITLED - This painting was reportedly created for a pulp-magazine cover, but remained unused.

  Harold McCauley, SHAVER MYSTERY 1, (THE SHAVER MYSTERY MAGAZINE 1947-no2) - It seems this painting was created and appeared in greytone as the cover (without typography) for the second issue of this amateur publication produced by Richard S. Shaver himself, in continuing support of his controversial narrative about the Earthly remains of a technologically-advanced pre-historical civilization.  A few years later, McCauley would re-cycle his central figure here (hiding her centaurish-ness) in his cover painting for IMAGINATION, Meet Me In Tomorrow.
